October was a fantastic month for 4th Ward Heroes thanks to all of you! I kicked things off working with Bands on Demand and Star Community Bar at the Little Five Points Halloween Festival on October 16th.  Bands on Demand got a bunch of great footage including interviews with many local bands on the bill, so be sure to check out the episode Channel 1 > Get Local > ATL Music and Movie Scene > Bands On Demand.

On behalf of myself and co-presenters Kim Burdges + Jessica Lewis of Mixtape Atlanta, much love + thanks to everyone who came out to DigATL Circus on October 28th at Star Community Bar. What a fun night! Special thanks to all of the performers: Travis Thatcher [aka Voice of Saturn], Cousin Dan, Fly Golden Eagle, Shitty Candy & The Circus Peanuts, Machines Are People Too and The Falcon Lords! Truly fantastic performances all around!

Thank you to all of our production assistants and glowstick girls Veronica Yung, Jedi Jess, Aliya Carnes, Christianna Merry Huber, Alice Kim. We could not have pulled it off without all of you! And everyone at Nao Media & Consulting, The Silver Tongue Online, and Mindzai Creative. Be sure to check out your portraits over at Mixtape Atlanta: Pick Up Your DIGATL Photos.

Travis Thatcher put together this little montage of footage of the show! Enjoy!

Much love, M!

O Lover, Where Art Thou? Thursday Aug 26th Star Community Bar

Posted: August 17th, 2010 | Author: 4th Ward Heroes | Filed under: 4TH WARD HEROES, EVENTS

On Thursday August 26th 4WH is teaming up with Mixtape Atlanta to present a bona fide good time at Star Community Bar. Join us for performances by Tyler Lyle, Little Horn, and Richard Sherfey. Doors at 9pm. Get there early! RSVP by clicking the poster below! For the love of local music, and thanks to Star Bar Atlanta, it’s free lovers, free!

Meet the artists:

TYLER LYLE (ATL) – “At his core, Tyler Lyle is an old soul from his rural hometown of Carrollton, Georgia. His voice has the sultry candor of age, with lyrics that are both original and boldly charming. Tyler’s husky, impressive vocals have already given way to three finished products: Some Songs EP, the online only Bare EP, and most recently, Notes From The Parade. With the use of a dizzying array of instruments — trumpets, banjo, flugelhorn, cymbals, glockenspiel, guitar, and harmonica — Tyler’s latest release emerges as a soundtrack for life.” Read more:  http://www.tylerlyle.com/

LITTLE HORN (ATL) – “Struggles with the lingering haunts of peculiar religious doctrines as well as personal experiences with joy and sorrow are the main emotional drivers behind Little Horn and the musical style is a shimmering southern-style gothic folk.” Read more: http://littlehornmusic.com/

RICHARD SHERFEY (ATH) – Promising “hymns and beer drinking anthems,” visit Richard Sherfey at http://www.myspace.com/richardsherfey

Tuesday May 11th | Mixtape Atlanta’s 1st Birthday Bash!

Posted: May 10th, 2010 | Author: 4th Ward Heroes | Filed under: 4TH WARD HEROES, EVENTS

Good friends are not hard to find if you know where to look. I’ll be spending tomorrow evening kicking back at P’Cheen with good friends and local heroes Kim Burdges and Jessica Lewis for Mixtape Atlanta’s 1st Birthday Bash! So, come on out and raise your glass!

Spirited supporters of film and music, Kim & Jessica work 24/7 with other industry professionals from all echelons and genres to get artists and their projects the exposure they need and deserve. We have shared more good times this year than I can count: from interviews to bootlegging Whynatte across state lines, from photo booths to giveaways, from film soundtracks to midnight chats, their dedication is unwavering. Much love and thanks for all of your hard work and support. Congratulations and Happy Birthday Mixtape Atlanta!
